Amar Sangee, Asha O Bhalobasha, Aamar Tumi, Amar Prem, Mandira, Badnam, Raktelekha, and Priya were among Bappi Lahiri's greatest box office hits in Bengali cinema.

"I Am A Disco Dancer" for the 1982 Bollywood film Disco Dancer, featuring actor Mithun Chakraborty, who is from Lahiri's native state of West Bengal, is one of his most popular songs, which is still extensively listened to today.

After embracing politics, the singer-composer ran for national elections in 2014 on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket from his native state, but he lost.

Lahiri's death follows that of Lata Mangeshkar, one of India's most well-known and adored vocalists. She died last month at the age of 92, after testing positive for Covid. Sandhya Mukherjee, a legendary Bengali vocalist, died on Tuesday at the age of 90.
